The information contained or otherwise referenced herein is presented only as “typical” without guarantee or warranty, and Industrial Welding Corporation expressly disclaims any liability incurred from any reliance thereon. Typical data and test results for mechanical properties, deposit, or electrode composition and other properties were obtained from a weld produced and tested according to prescribed standards and should not be assumed to be the expected results in a particular application or weldment. Actual results will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to, weld procedure, plate chemistry and temperature, weldment design, and fabrication methods. Users are cautioned to confirm by qualification testing, or other appropriate means, the suitability of any welding consumable and procedure before use in the intended application.

  • For buffering, cushioning, or underlaying base alloy for final hardfacing overlaying or deposit on low, medium and high carbon, low alloy high tensile strength steels
  • Not used for joining
  • The term BUFFER LAYER is used to describe the presence of an intermediate deposit between the base metal and the actual deposit. In many cases, it is both desirable and necessary to use BUFFERWELD No.1 before welding a hardfacing overlay deposit
  • HARDFACING ON A SOFT BASE METAL FOR HIGH LOAD SERVICE: When a hardfacing deposit is welded on a soften base metal, there is a tendency for it to sink in under high loading. To overcome this, a strong & tough buffer layer is deposited onto the base metal prior to hardfacing
  • HARDFACING COMPONENTS SUBJECT TO HEAVY IMPACT AND OR FLEXING: When a component is subjected to heavy impact and / or flexing there is the possibility that relief checks which are common in the higher hardness range of hardfacing deposits will act as stress concentrators and propagate through the base metal, particularly where the base metal is a high strength steel. The use of BUFFERWELD NO.1 to provide a suitable buffer layer between the base and hardfacing deposit will overcome this problem
  • HARDFACING OVER PARTLY WORN PARTS: In many instances, parts which have been hardfaced and put into use, wear evenly and when they need hardfacing again, there are areas of the original hardfacing deposit still existing. For fractured and very hard deposits, it is necessary they removed by grinding & gouging prior to re-hardfacing. If this is not possible, the use of BUFFERWELD NO.1 will secure the existing hardfacing and provide a tough base underlay alloy for subsequent hardfacing deposit
